LiveWire has appointed BAM Construction as the preferred contractor to carry out the £16m redevelopment of the Great Sankey Leisure Centre in Warrington.
BAM is set to begin on phase one of the project at the start of next month.
The scheme is being brought forward by a joint venture between LiveWire and Warrington Council.
The 65,000 sq ft facility, designed by Walker Simpson Architects, will include a 120-station fitness suite, upgraded swimming pools, playing pitches, sports hall, group exercise studios, outdoor functional training frame, library, café, retail outlets, trim trail and heritage trail. There will also be a health wing providing medical services to west Warrington residents, along with a pharmacy and business zone offering meeting spaces.
The building will also host cultural events working in partnership with LiveWire’s sister company Culture Warrington. Later phases plan to incorporate a spa with treatment programmes and facilities to promote well-being. The project is set to open in autumn 2016.
