Engineering consultancies WSP and Jacobs have been appointed by Transport for the North (TfN) to develop an infrastructure improvement programme covering two key transport corridors in the North of England.
The WSP – Jacobs team will build a strategic outline case for a programme of road and rail transport improvements across the Southern Pennines Corridor, linking east to west between major economic and population centres including Liverpool, Warrington and Cheshire, Manchester, Sheffield and Hull, incorporating four major ports and four international airports.
The team will investigate the Yorkshire to Scotland strategic development corridor, examining evidence collected from the Southern Pennines study as well as the two earlier studies – Central Pennines and Connecting the Energy Coasts corridors, which WSP is undertaking – with a focus on improving north to south road connectivity.
It will also offer a range of services including transport planning and modelling, highway engineering, environmental and risk management capability.
