On Thursday 19th April organisers of the English Half Marathon hosted a networking event, bringing together people from all over Warrington. From charities, local press, heads of business to runners of the event, the night really encapsulated all that the English Half Marathon has to offer to the community.

Race Director Rob Griffiths kicked off the evening outlining his passion for the event and how much it means to him he said “Our main focus is to make the event more local, the event will bring over 20,000 people to Warrington over the weekend. So our challenge now is to see how we can give these people the best welcome possible and show how great we are as a town”.

Following on from Rob, Paul Billingham of Knight Corporate Finance took to the stage. Once again they will be supporting the Corporate Finance Run Challenge, which aims to get businesses involved in the event. The Challenge is a great way to encourage a healthy lifestyle within work, with structured training plans on offer to cater for all abilities. The challenge also offers participants a V.I.P experience giving them additional perks on the day of the event including an additional medal and complimentary refreshments.

Louise Blizzard, a winner of the event in 2011 spoke with passion about how much the event means to her and brings in runners of all abilities to come together and experience what a great town Warrington is. Louise is taking part in her 24th London Marathon on Sunday helping raise funds for the ‘Warrington Wolves Foundation’.

The night was rounded off with speeches from Gary Skentelbery of ‘Warrington Worldwide’ and Faisal Rashid, Warrington South MP who have both vowed the run the 10k this September.  Both men have already started training and aim to raise lots of money for their chosen charities.

Overall the night was a huge success, attendees left the event informed and inspired to get involved in the event.
