A £3m funding boost has been awarded to a motorway junction improvement designed to help unlock a key housing and employment site next to junction 8 of the M62 in Warrington.

Highways England has awarded the cash to the £12m road improvement scheme from the government’s new Growth and Housing Fund.

The M62 Junction 8 scheme, which will be delivered by Warrington Borough Council with additional funding from Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership and contributions from developers, will improve access from the motorway to the £1bn, 575-acre Omega development site.

The scheme forms part of the wider West Warrington package of transport improvements.
