Changing Lives in Cheshire (CliC) has been awarded £374,000 from The Big Lottery for a furniture recycling project based in Warrington. The project provides retail space selling refurbished donated furniture which can then be recycled or reused and sold back cheaply to low-income families for furnishing their homes. The store also provides volunteering, training and work placement opportunities for those who are unemployed, those with physical or mental health issues, or maybe just looking for a way to give back to their community. CLiC specialises in reaching those furthest from employment and providing a simple pathway to either employment, further training or better volunteering experiences.
CLiC refurbs furniture and electrical items donated direct from the public as well as working with Local Authorities via bulky waste collections and on Household Waste Recycling sites together with take-back schemes from national retailers. This produces a direct reduction in product arriving at landfill whilst assisting families struggling to furnish their homes at an affordable cost, which in turn reduces the need for high-cost debt. So far in 2018 CLiC have helped over 5,500 low income families, provided over 26,000 volunteer & placement hours and collected over 500 tonnes of furniture & electrical waste.
