More shops, parking and an Asda Click & Collect service are set to be introduced to Birchwood Shopping Centre as part of a major expansion of the site. Part of the existing complex will have to be demolished to make way for the proposed development.
Birchwood Warrington has submitted an outline planning application to Warrington Borough Council to overhaul the centre on Benson Road to the south of the town. The centre, which it owns and operates, has recently undergone a full refurbishment.
Built in the 1970s, Birchwood Shopping Centre now offers 400,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space and more than 50 units anchored by a 109,000 sq ft Asda supermarket. Other significant occupiers include Aldi, Home Bargains, Argos, Sports Direct and Pets at Home.
The centre also has an annual footfall of 4.6 million people and more than 1,400 parking spaces.
