The journey to work is a key factor in attracting and retaining staff. Businesses with a strong focus on travel planning have a competitive advantage in the recruitment market and independent research suggests that they also benefit from lower sickness levels and more productive staff in addition to cash savings as a result of reduced demand for car parking. Since 2011, Warrington Borough Council has been supporting businesses to unlock the potential for staff to commute by cycle, public transport, car share and walking to boost the competitiveness of Warrington businesses with proven results attracting additional funding for 2015/16 following a competitive bidding process.
Two Workplace Travel Advisors are available to provide tailored, bespoke advice and support with travel planning from developing documentation to engaging directly with staff through onsite events, the project provides wraparound support to get businesses in the race.
Businesses that engage with the team are eligible to apply for funding to assist with the cost of upgrading associated infrastructure such as showers, lockers, cycle parking etc. to enable staff to commute sustainably, dramatically improving the business case for action.
