A partnership of four councils – including Warrington – has launched a major initiative to deliver nearly £3 million funding to rural areas.
The Cheshire Leader Programme aims to give a funding boost to rural areas of Warrington and beyond.
Warrington Borough Council is working in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cheshire East Council and Trafford Council.
The Leader programme aims to help create jobs and stimulate economic growth by providing funding for businesses and organisations looking to begin or expand their operations in the rural areas.
Unlike many other funding programmes, the project is delivered locally rather than nationally, with decisions on where the grant money is spent being made by an appointed local action group of representatives from various organisations in the area.
Cllr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Borough Council, said: “We are growing a strong economy in Warrington – in our rural areas as well as the more well-established urban areas.
“The Cheshire Leader team have worked extremely hard to secure the funding for this project and I’m thrilled that they are now open for business.”
